In a letter addressed to Florida chiropractors the Florida Chiropractic Society is alerting practitioners that once again the chiropractic drug pushers in the state are attempting to get an injectible drug bill passed in the upcoming legislative session.
Being sold under the deceptive guise of a "nutrition" bill the Florida Chiropractic Physician's Association (FCPA) falsely claims that 90% of the licensed chiropractors in Florida support the drug bill.
What they leave out is that according to the Feds anything injected into the bloodstream is a drug and that this is just one more effort on the long and arduous road of getting drug rights for chiropractors in the State of Florida.
According to the letter from Eddie Martinez DC, President of the Florida Chiropractic Society: "The integrity and identity of the chiropractic profession lies in the balance. If you want your voice heard in Tallahassee, the time to act is now!"
On November 18, 2019 HB 677 was introduced by Rep. David Smith (R-Winter Springs), authorizing specifically trained chiropractic physicians to provide "injectable nutrition" to their patients. If passed, pharmacists licensed under chapter 465 would fill the orders of chiropractors.
The Bill comes on the heels of several reports of malpractice cases involving infections and other medical errors following injections.
In their effort to get chiropractors on board, the FCPA also introduced the companion to HB 677 on December 5, 2019. SB 1138, the companion, was filed by Senator Jeff Brandes (R-St. Pete). Both Bills include authorizing a specified number of certain chiropractic continuing education hours to be completed online.
According to Martinez "Other organizations claim that over 90% of Florida DCs support HB 677. This is a false claim and our legislators need to know this. Will you sell out the chiropractic principle for a few extra online credits?"
The Florida Chiropractic Society urges Florida chiropractors to act:
"If you are a chiropractor who wants to preserve, protect and promote the philosophy, science and art of Chiropractic, as a distinct drug-less health profession dedicated to the detection and correction of vertebral subluxation, then take action now, speak out and let your voice be heard to oppose both HB 677 and SB 1138 today."
