The University of D'Youville's Chiropractic Program has been placed on a sanction of "WARNING" by the Council on Chiropractic Education following an Interim Site visit by the accrediting agency. The announcement was made by the CCE following its Annual Council Meeting January 12-13, 2024.
Interim Site Visits are conducted midway through the accreditation cycle of a program and focus on specific elements of the CCE Accreditation Standards, to include; program effectiveness, student learning outcomes and meta-competencies. The Council reviews the program interim report, the response to the site visit report and meets with program representatives in a progress review meeting where the Council determines if the program meets the Standards and subsequently makes a decision to continue, defer or revoke accreditation of the program and/or impose sanctions.

In the case of D'Youville, the decision was made to place the program on WARNING for noncompliance within Section 2.H.2, Assessment of Learning Outcomes and Curricular Effectiveness. D'Youville will need to submit a Progress Report by June 2024.
When the CCE determines that a chiropractic program is not in compliance with CCE Standards, including eligibility and accreditation requirements, and policies and related procedures, the Council may opt to apply several sanctions including WARNING. According to the CCE the intent of issuing a warning is to alert the DCP of the requirement to address specific deficiencies regarding its accreditation.
Following a notice of warning, the Council may require additional reporting, a site visit, and/or an appearance before the Council to permit the DCP to provide additional information and/or evidence of compliance. Warning is a sanction, is not subject to appeal, and shall not exceed twelve (12) months. WARNING is a public sanction.
Obtaining a license to practice chiropractic requires graduation from a school accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE), which holds a monopoly on chiropractic education accreditation. This exclusivity has positioned the CCE as part of a virtual cartel, as outlined by the U.S. Department of Education, controlling the educational standards and pathways into the profession. This monopoly influences the direction of chiropractic education, emphasizing certain philosophies and treatment approaches, and plays a crucial role in shaping the future landscape of chiropractic practice.
