Sherman College Engages Brailsford & Dunlavey to Guide Campus-Wide Planning
Sherman College of Chiropractic has announced the engagement of planning and program management firm Brailsford & Dunlavey (B&D) – with offices in Atlanta, Charlotte, New York and beyond – to guide the institution’s Campus Master Plan process, and to serve as Owner Representative.
The college has doubled its enrollment under the leadership of President Edwin Cordero, D.C., and anticipates continued growth, potentially doubling student enrollment again over the next decade. As one of just 18 chiropractic colleges in the nation and the only one in the Carolinas, Sherman College’s doctor of chiropractic program is unique in its approach to health care and known globally for producing doctors who are highly skilled in their delivery of chiropractic care.
Seeing the potential for further growth and impact, the Sherman College Board of Trustees authorized senior administration to develop strategic plans for the college, including a Master Plan for the college’s 88-acre campus situated between Upper Valley Falls and Springfield Roads in the Boiling Springs area. This process will include selection, managed by B&D, of architectural and construction management partners.
“Careers in chiropractic are in high demand as consumers turn to more natural and preventative approaches for their healthcare, and Sherman College is committed to help meet that demand,” said Sherman College President Edwin Cordero, D.C.. “Given the significant enrollment growth we have seen over the past five years, and given the anticipated growth in the chiropractic profession nationally in the coming years, we expect that interest from prospective Sherman College students will continue to grow in the future.”
According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, chiropractic employment opportunities will increase “much faster than the average for all occupations,” with an expected bump of 17 percent this decade alone. These facts, coupled with Sherman’s elevated focus on enhancing the quality of the overall campus experience for its students, sparked interest in improving and expanding its physical environment.
The Master Plan process includes broad involvement from the campus community through focus groups, surveys and numerous working sessions. As development advisor for the Master Plan’s implementation, Brailsford & Dunlavey will manage all of the owner-related responsibilities associated with the capital projects, including budget oversight and management of project team members.
“We are excited to continue our meaningful working relationship with Sherman College through the implementation of a Campus Master Plan,” said Rebecca Geraghty, a senior project manager at B&D and the team lead at Sherman College. “The college’s strong leadership and ambition for improvement makes them an extremely enjoyable partner to work with. We look forward to helping Sherman realize its new vision for the campus and supporting its institutional purpose.”
With 23 years of experience as an advisor to higher education clients, B&D is regarded as an industry leader in the planning and implementation of facilities including student housing, student unions, athletics, foodservice, and campus recreation. Sherman will be supported by professionals out of B&D’s Charlotte and Atlanta offices, who also serve a number of other clients in the Upstate including Converse College, Limestone College, Presbyterian College, and the University of South Carolina.
