Northwestern to Give Flu Shots

Fulfills Role as Primary Care Provider
In an e-mail that went out to students and staff of Northwestern Health Sciences University, the institution states it will be offering free flu shots to interested employees and students this year to assist them in “staying healthy this flu season”.
Reporting that the Minnesota Department of Health has confirmed the first flu cases of the 2012-2013 flu season in Minnesota, NWHSU asked: Are you ready for flu season?
Judging by disparaging comments made on Facebook at these efforts, there is some concern that vaccinations would be given out at an institution primarily known for training chiropractors. Such efforts should not surprise anyone however, given that all chiropractic institutions are mandated to train primary care physicians per the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) and that vaccinations are part of the responsibility of primary care providers.
Employees and students interested in getting the flu vaccine were asked to send an email with the word "yes" in the subject line to flushots@nwhealth.edu or to contact Deborah Hogenson at dhogenson@nwhealth.edu with any questions.
