The Dean, Vincent DeBono DC, CSCS, presented his research on the philosophy of interns entering Logan's clinics which showed that the majority of students (66%) identified as Broad Scope Primary Care. According to DeBono's presentation Broad Scope Primary Care is defined as: "Primary practice philosophy is based on the diagnosis, management and triage of non-emergent conditions"
DeBono used his paper and audience to attack chiropractors who practice contrary to his broad scope primary care stating:
"The basis of vitalism and the tenets of this type of practice are based on dogmatic beliefs that are not evidence informed".
He also claimed without any supporting evidence that: "In the vitalism practice model the information presented is not high-quality evidence . . ."
He then suggested that chiropractors who manage their patients in a vitalistic, subluxation model may be practicing outside the standard of care stating:
"The philosophical constructs of a chiropractor may negatively influence practice behavior in the shared decision making process and delivery of evidence informed care plans."
Statements like his are used by plaintiffs' attorneys, plaintiffs' experts and rogue regulatory boards to go after chiropractors who mange vertebral subluxation in a vitalistic model.
While chiropractors who practice in this model were notably upset by his assertions it appears he most likely has a great deal of support from the Board of Trustees at Logan since the majority of the chiropractors on Logan’s Board are card carrying members of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA).
Debono himself is an ACA member.
Of the ten Logan Board members who are chiropractors, at least six of them are ACA members including the Chairman of the Board:
In addition to the regular Logan Board members who are ACA members, Keith Overland DC the past President of the ACA serves Logan as an Advisory Member to the Board of Trustees. Overland is also a Member of the West Hartford Group (WHG) which is a rabid anti-subluxation group focused on expanding the scope of chiropractic to include drugs and primary care. Overland uses a video from the WHG on his clinic’s website to promote his style of “non-surgical spine care”.
Making matters worse, according to Logan's website Logan has a Professional Affiliation and Partnership with the American Chiropractic Association and the World Federation of Chiropractic.
The American Chiropractic Association has been in the news lately as it re-branded itself and adopted extremely restrictive guidelines that include the effective prohibition on the taking of x-rays for subluxation analysis. All ACA members must sign a Pledge that they will abide by such guidelines.
