In addition to the minutes, an email sent to the NYS Chiropractic Board office asked:
Can Cannabinoid Oil Cream be used on patients? Is it within the NYS chiropractic scope of practice? Is a prescription necessary?
The Board responded:
The answer is no. Chiropractors cannot prescribe or recommend the use of medical marijuana products to their patients. The NYS Department of Health only allows physicians and PA’s to do so for specified conditions. A chiropractor in NY could face disciplinary action from OPD for doing such. Chiropractors practicing in New York and using CBD products are urged to review the Board's decision and act accordingly. Chiropractors in other states who are selling, prescribing and using CBD Oil are urged to contact their state board and confirm that it is within their scope.
