Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation Submits Written Comments to USDOE
The Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation has formally submitted comments to the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity of the Office of Postsecondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education in preparation for the upcoming Hearing regarding the status of the Council on Chiropractic Education’s (CCE) recognition by the USDOE.
The hearing will be held December 12-13, 2013 in Washington DC. This hearing is taking place due to numerous concerns that the NACIQI Committee had in regards to the CCE at their 2011 Hearing.
Over 4000 written complaints had been received prior to the 2011 Hearing which resulted in the CCE being cited for over 40 deficiencies.
The requirements put in place by NACIQI included that the CCE demonstrate that they had widespread acceptance by the chiropractic profession. Unfortunately, the CCE lobbied the USDOE and as a result the Assistant Secretary for Education at the time, Edward Ochoa, removed that requirement. This single action has allowed the CCE to continue its agenda.
In the current submission to the USDOE, the Foundation addressed the following issues:
- The lack of widespread acceptance of the CCE
- Conflicts of interest at the CCE
- The Primary Care issue
- Review of Standards
The Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation respectfully requested that the Committee recommend deferral of a decision on the continuation of recognition of CCE as an accreditor for 12 months and reinstate the requirement regarding 602.13 - Acceptance of the agency by others, as it is not meeting the needs of the chiropractic profession. The Foundation seeks the application of the principles of good governance including transparency, accountability, and meaningful participation for all factions within chiropractic.
